It takes two minutes. 2. **Who pulls the permit, and is it in the price?** It should be the business, and it should be in writing. 3. **What is the payment schedule?** Payments should follow the work. Be wary of large deposits up front. 4. **Which parts of the job do you subcontract?** Most do some. You want to know who will be at your home. 5. **What does the warranty cover, and for how long?** Labour, materials and equipment often have different terms. 6. **Can I talk to two customers from the last year?** Recent ones, not the showcase project from years ago. 06 Local facts ## Tallahassee in numbers The public numbers behind this list: the local market and the rules every job here has to meet. **2,758** Cooling degree days per year (Annual cooling degree days (base 65°F), a measure of how much air conditioning a climate needs; NOAA station Tallahassee (USW00093805), about 6 miles from the city center point.) 1991–2020 normals · [NOAA NCEI, U.S. Climate Normals 1991–2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-annualseasonal/1991-2020/access/USW00093805.csv) **103** Days a year at 90°F or hotter (Average number of days per year with a high of 90°F or more; NOAA station Tallahassee (USW00093805), about 6 miles from the city center point.) 1991–2020 normals · [NOAA NCEI, U.S. Climate Normals 1991–2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/normals-annualseasonal/1991-2020/access/USW00093805.csv) **$294,400** Median home value (Median value of owner-occupied homes (ACS table B25077).) 2020–2024 · [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates](https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5Y2024.B25077?g=160XX00US1270600) **53.3%** Homes built before 1990 (51,828 of 97,245 housing units were built in 1989 or earlier (ACS table B25034, year structure built).) 2020–2024 · [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates](https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5Y2024.B25034?g=160XX00US1270600) **85,311** Households in Tallahassee (Occupied housing units (one household per occupied home), ACS table B25003.) 2020–2024 · [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates](https://data.census.gov/table/ACSDT5Y2024.B25003?g=160XX00US1270600) **June 1 to November 30** Atlantic hurricane season (An average season (1991–2020) has 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes.) 1991–2020 climate period · [NOAA National Hurricane Center, Tropical Cyclone Climatology](https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/climo/) Figures from public sources.
