About Shortlist

# We do the filtering. You make fewer calls.

Shortlist publishes short, checked lists of local businesses: three to five per service and city, each with a clear reason it is there.

Updated **October 29, 2026**

01 Why

## Why short lists

Most directories show fifty names and leave the work to you. We would rather compare the records and check what can be checked ourselves, then tell you where to start. A short list is only useful if it is honest, so the rules below come first.

02 Rules

## Three rules we keep

1. **Position is never for sale** Not the place, not the order. [How we make money](https://theshortlistlocal.com/how-we-make-money/).
2. **Every list shows its working** How many we compared, who was selected, and when it was updated. [How selection works](https://theshortlistlocal.com/how-selection-works/).
3. **Mistakes are fixed in public** Every correction is checked against a second source. [Corrections](https://theshortlistlocal.com/corrections/).

03 Team

## Who we are

A small editorial team. Editors never sell advertising, and sales staff never see a list before it is published.

Shortlist is an independent guide. Businesses can pay for an enhanced profile or for quote requests; no one can pay for a place on a shortlist or for its order. [How we make money](https://theshortlistlocal.com/how-we-make-money/).
